In 1892, a committee of women submitted a letter to Mayor Clemente Cayrol to build a larger religious building than the existing Santa Cecilia Chapel. In December of that same year, they sent a letter to the provincial governor, Dr. Julio A. Costa, with the same objective as the previous one.

Previously, with the goal of building a temple, the foundation stone was laid in January 1893. The work was directed by Engineer Pedro Benoit, who initially worked for free, and was continued by his son Pedro J. after his death in 1897. The project maintained a particularly Neo-Gothic style. The builders were Adán Pandolfi, the project manager, and Juan Lazzari, the foreman, who led a team of Italian workers and artisans. Mostly.
