"The small town is located, like the Puerta del Pantano and Cornalvo Natural Park, near Mérida, towards the east.
It was founded in 1327 under the Charter of Puebla granted by the Master of Santiago, Vasco Rodríguez de Cornago, for the repopulation of the territory.

The place name derives from the people of Trujillo who initially occupied it. Its inhabitants are known locally as "bachilleres."

Its most notable building is the parish church of the Santísima Trinidad, located in the center of the long street that runs east to west along the old Camino Real to Madrid and is the town's main street.

It is a small building with a tower and facade at the front, attractively composed, and doorways of austere Renaissance design, with Visigothic pieces embedded in the Epistle. The interior is spacious, with a single nave with three bays and narrower chancel. The church lacks a main altarpiece, although part of the one it once had, a 16th-century work with fine carvings of Saints Peter and Paul, can still be found on one side of the nave.
