Zygos is an abstract sculpture located at the entrance to the Carillon Tower in Charlotte, North Carolina. The stainless steel sculpture was created in 2007 by Sally Rogers.
Her statement on the work: ""Zygos," the root of "zygosis,' is an ancient Greek word meaning "the act of joining together in balance.' In more contemporary vernacular, the word is also used to express the concept of teamwork. The sculpture "Zygos" was created with both of these meanings in mind. Visually, there are several interconnected links that all rely on each other to form the greater whole; in both structure and composition, these shapes support and connect all the individual components of the piece. This visual connection is an apt metaphor, as well, for what is happening in the city of Charlotte - a joining together of many parts to form a larger whole, a process that involves teamwork on many levels and that requires balance, interplay, and connectedness to achieve the best results. Ultimately, "Zygos" is about growth."
