The GAYA steam locomotive No. 6, built in 1912 by Hunslet Engine Co., served North Borneo Railways for 56 years. It was overhauled in 1954, repainted deep green, and retired in 1968.

GAYA Steam Locomotive No. 6 Class III

The GAYA steam locomotive No. 6 Class III was newly purchased by the North Borneo Railways in 1912. Maintenance work was required and carried out once every five years. However, in 1954 major repair work on the train was done. The boiler was replaced and the wagon for fuel and water was modified in order to increase its capacity. The colour of the locomotive was also changed from black to deep green. Operation ceased in 1968 after 56 years of useful life.
