"The Church of Santa Catalina (Capuchins) in Cádiz. This church was part of the former Capuchin Convent, founded in 1639 on the site of the now-defunct hermitage of Santa Catalina.
Two years later, it was moved to this site, where, until its almost complete demolition a few decades ago, the entire convent complex was preserved. Murillo had produced an important group of paintings, now housed in the Museum of Cádiz.
In fact, the Sevillian painter's death is attributed to the consequences of injuries sustained when he fell from scaffolding while working on the work.
The chapel of the Venerable Third Order was built in the 18th century, with a rectangular floor plan and a single nave, covered by a barrel vault and decorated with partially preserved frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Saint Francis.
In the main altarpiece, elements from a Rococo altarpiece have been used, and its sculptures include an 18th-century carving of Saint Joseph. Genoese school.
It is the temporary headquarters of the Brotherhoods of the Expiration, the Forsaken, and the Holy Guardian Angel, due to the construction of the Military Church.
