Tribute to 'supermarket cat' Sammie
Cat Sammie was so beloved by the staff and customers of Albert Heijn in Almere's Kruidenwijk that he got his own memorial in front of the door. After his death, cashier Dorien Hogenkamp took the initiative to arrange a tribute for the 'supermarket cat'.

At the empty bottle machine she collected the deposit slips and together with individual donations she managed to collect 437 euros. Enough for two tiles: one with a photo of Sammie and one with a self-made poem and cat paws. The tiles have recently been placed in front of the Albert Heijn, the domain where Sammie liked to spend twelve years. Until he passed away on Christmas Day last year. "I can still see him coming as a little kitten. I just threw some flower water outside," Hogenkamp reminisces. "He never really left. New residents would sometimes call the animal ambulance, because they thought he was a stray. But he just had a house here in the neighborhood."
