There's an ECV plaque next to the building. It reads: "From the late 1800’s through the turn of the century, this site was host to town’s livery stable. With the advent of the automobile, the stables became Fred’s Automotive Repair and Gas Station catering to travelers staying in and passing through town.
The Masons relocated from Front Street and constructed this historic brick building. For decades the lower floor housed Sutter Appliance and Hardware, also known as Wardlow’s. Unbeknownst to many, the Masonic Order conducted their meetings and rites in their second floor lodge and shared this space with the Knights Templar. Purchased by Bill Ruth in 1998, it is now privately owned.
