This well appointed "Safety Rest Area" serves westbound traffic on I-20; its westbound counterpart is on the other side of the interstate. This rest area is about nine miles west of Thorntonville. The "Safety" aspect means that storm shelters are here if travelers need them. There is a covered children's play area outside along with pavilions and picnic tables and plenty of room to stretch your legs and walk the dog. Inside are restrooms and exhibits related to a nearby WWII-era training base that was known for a large rattlesnake population.
