"La muralla medieval de Vitoria fue un recinto murado que fortificó en la Edad Media el poblado de Vitoria, y su construcción se cree tuvo lugar a finales del siglo XI o principios del siglo XII, aunque existen sólidos argumentos histórico-numismáticos que apuntan que, en realidad, la muralla se erigió en la segunda mitad del siglo XII.
Se conserva aproximadamente la mitad del volumen total, y fue recuperada a principios del siglo XXI en una actuación que recibió una mención especial en la categoría de conservación en los Premios Europa Nostra en España en 2010.
El recinto amurallado medieval de la ciudad fue construido en un momento indeterminado del siglo XII, unos años antes de que el rey Sancho VI de Navarra4? fundara la villa en 1181 bajo el nombre de Nueva Victoria. Este recinto murado ya consta en el fuero concedido el mismo año de la fundación.
Durante los últimos siglos permaneció oculta entre las edificaciones del casco histórico, hasta que un equipo de investigación arqueológica de la Universidad del País Vasco llevó a cabo unas excavaciones arqueológicas en el subsuelo de la catedral de Santa María en 2001, en las que fueron descubiertos los restos de las zapatas de la antigua muralla."

"The medieval wall of Vitoria was a walled enclosure that fortified the town of Vitoria in the Middle Ages, and its construction is believed to have taken place at the end of the 11th century or the beginning of the 12th century, although there are solid historical-numismatic arguments that suggest that, in reality, the wall was erected in the second half of the 12th century.
Approximately half of the total volume is preserved, and was recovered at the beginning of the 21st century in a performance that received a special mention in the conservation category at the Europa Nostra Awards in Spain in 2010.
The medieval walled enclosure of the city was built at an undetermined time in the 12th century, a few years before King Sancho VI of Navarra4 founded the town in 1181 under the name of Nueva Victoria. This walled enclosure already appears in the jurisdiction granted the same year of its foundation.
During the last centuries it remained hidden among the buildings of the historic center, until an archaeological research team from the University of the Basque Country carried out archaeological excavations in the basement of the Cathedral of Santa María in 2001, in which the remains of the footings of the old wall were discovered."
