"We are in the enclosure of the Ducal Palace or Castillo de la Mota, former site of the Alcázar of the Islamic Medina, located at one end of the town, at the highest and best defended level, surrounded by an independent walled perimeter.
It was accessed through the Puerta del Tiro giving way to a large Gothic doorway, located today in the gardens of the Reales Alcázares of Seville, which gave access to a hunting patio with columns and semicircular arches.
The noble and residential area was to the right of the entrance. The Catholic Monarchs settled here in 1485 along with Don Rodrigo Ponce de León, 1st Marquis of Cádiz, to discuss military operations against Granada. It also had a viewing façade that opened onto Doge's Square. Starting in the 16th century, the castle was remodeled, turning it first into a Renaissance palace and later into a Baroque palace, becoming the habitual residence of the Ponce de León family (Dukes of Arcos).
Witnesses of the ancient splendor are the church of Santa María de la Mota and the convent of La Concepción."
