This tall bronze marker is set on a marble monument at the southeast corner of the Sabine County Courthouse Square. The top of the brass plaque includes relief sculptures of two faces, each looking outwards from the monument. The left face is associated with Hispanic imagery, such as a Spanish lion; the other includes a bird with outstretched wings. Given the text on the monument, they are probably intended to represent Spain and the United States; this region was a border between those two nations at the time.
