The Stephen F. Austin Live Oak trees, found throughout Texas, were derived from acorns from a Live Oak that grows near the location where Stephen F. Austin died of pneumonia. There is, unfortuantely, no documentation present here other than the sign in the tree, which is on the south side of the Sabine County Courthouse. According to the historical marker near the place where he died, "It was through Austin's tireless efforts and dedication that the Republic of Texas was created. Austin was called "the Father of Texas" by General Sam Houston and a tree is planted in his memory in every county in Texas."
