The Sabine County Jail was constructed in 1904 and was in use as a jail until 1982. This is one of only two jails in Texas that had a hanging rope; you can view the rope and the trap door when you visit. The jail is now home to the Sabine County Museum and Vergie Speights Memorial Library. Among the interesting exhibits are rare books, photographs, and the heavy iron doors of the old jail. The building itself is a Recorded Texas Landmark.
