A planter is behind the monument, with Mr. Hendrix's initials where one would expect to find a footstone, and the family name is on the plinth. The Woodmen of the World emblem is complemented by calla lilies on the front cap (there are also some below and around the epitaph), and below are the compass and square of the Freemasons and the emblem of the Knights of Pythias -- note the skull. The inscription reads:

Hendrix
Born July 6, 1861,
Died July 17, 1911.
Oh! for the touch of a vanished hand,
And the sound of a voice that is still.
