"The Roxel motorway chapel is a Christian-ecumenical sacred building southeast of the Roxel district of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Münster at the Münsterland Ost rest stop on the federal motorway.

History
The idea for a new motorway chapel came up in the mid-1960s in the St. Pantaleon community in Roxel. In the tradition of the many court chapels, wayside crosses and station pictures in Münsterland, the motorway built here in 1968 was also to have a wayside chapel. The building site was ultimately made available free of charge by the owner, while the construction costs were covered by donations. Construction work began in the summer of 1968 based on a design by the architect Hubert Teschlade and the chapel was inaugurated in June 1969.

The chapel is looked after by the St. Pantaleon parish in Münster-Roxel, which also uses the building for May devotions and as a station for processions.

Architecture & equipment
The chapel is located at the northern end of the rest area directly in front of a forest and can be reached via a footpath. The shape of the chapel resembles a tent and is intended to symbolically remind people of the journey of car drivers. The entrance in the south wall is a large glass double door, flanked on the right and left by two metal walls with colorful glass inserts. A red and green cross is attached above the entrance.

The side walls of the simple interior are made of concrete, while the back is completely taken up by a glass facade that offers a view of a large crucifix designed by the architect of the building and the forest behind it. The interior contains an altar, kneeling benches and benches, as well as a figure of Christopher with the baby Jesus in a display case. The roof of the interior is covered with wood."

Geschichte
Die Idee für eine neue Autobahnkapelle kam Mitte der 1960er-Jahre in der Gemeinde St. Pantaleon aus Roxel auf. In Tradition der vielen Hofkapellen, Wegekreuze und Stationsbilder im Münsterland sollte auch die hier 1968 entstandene Autobahn eine Wegekapelle erhalten. Die Baufläche wurde vom Eigentümer schließlich kostenfrei zur Verfügung gestellt, während die Baukosten durch Spenden gedeckt wurden. Die Bauarbeiten wurden im Sommer 1968 nach einem Entwurf des Architekten Hubert Teschlade begonnen und im Juni 1969 konnte die Kapelle eingeweiht werden.

Die Kapelle wird von der St-Pantaleon-Gemeinde in Münster-Roxel, die das Gebäude auch für Maiandachten und als Station für Prozessionen nutzt, betreut.

Architektur & Ausstattung
Die Kapelle liegt am nördlichen Ende der Raststätte direkt vor einem Waldstück und ist über einen Fußweg erreichbar. Die Form der Kapelle ähnelt einem Zelt und soll damit symbolisch an die Reise der Autofahrenden erinnern. Den Eingang in der Südwand bildet eine große Glas-Doppeltür, die rechts und links von zwei Metallwänden mit bunten Glaseinsätzen flankiert wird. Über dem Eingang ist ein rot-grünes Kreuz angebracht.

Die Seitenwände des schlichten Innenraums bestehen aus Beton, während die Rückseite komplett durch eine Glasfassade eingenommen wird, die den Blick auf ein großes Kruzifix, das vom Architekten des Gebäudes entworfen wurde, und den dahinterliegenden Wald freigibt. Der Innenraum enthält einen Altar, Knie- und Sitzbänke sowie in einer Vitrine eine Figur von Christophorus mit dem Jesus-Kind. Das Dach des Innenraums ist mit Holz verkleidet. "

Les parois latérales de l'intérieur simple sont en béton, tandis que l'arrière est entièrement occupé par une façade vitrée qui révèle un grand crucifix, conçu par l'architecte du bâtiment, et la forêt derrière lui. L'intérieur contient un autel, des agenouilleurs et des bancs ainsi qu'une figure de Christophe avec l'enfant Jésus dans une vitrine. La toiture de l'intérieur est recouverte de bois."
