Bertha Lou Brewer was born in 1921, the same year that Margaret Gorman, 16, wins the Golden Mermaid trophy at a beauty pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey; officials later dub her the first Miss America.

The final resting place of centenarian Bertha Lou Brewer is at the far west side of Resurrection Cemetery, in section 11. Her headstone has the following inscription:

Bertha Lou Stepp Brewer passed away on October 16, 2021 at the age of 100. Bertha was born August 31, 1921 in Hendersonville, NC to Terrell Robert and May Belle Bishop Stepp. Bertha moved to Chicago when she was 18 and met her future husband, Walter Ray Brewer and they married October 8, 1947. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1950. Bertha spent many years working in retail, her last job was as a seamstress at Napoleon Nash, when she decided to stop working outside the home she devoted her time to being a homemaker. She and Ray were active Charter members of Tulakes Baptist Church where she helped with many of the hospitality events . She volunteered at Bethany General Hospital. After Ray retired they enjoyed traveling across the United States. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray, siblings, Zella Harlow, Glover Stepp, Pauline Bevelacqua, Theodore Stepp, Frances Bokirk, Marie Stepp and Wilma Garnes. She is survived by Ron Brewer and wife, Nancey of Phoenix, AZ, Charles Brewer and Tammy, Larry Brewer and wife, Dana and Debbie English and husband, Bob all of OKC, 8 grandchildren, Phillip, Allison, Lacey, Sarah, Christa, Stephanie, Chalea and Bobby, 16 great-grandchildren , siblings, Paul Stepp, Ann Stroup, Geraldine Wyatt, Agnes Grasty, Barbara Redmond and David Stepp. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.billmerrittfuneralservice.com for the Brewer family.
