This dark brown brick building is on the west side of Main Street, directly across from the Motley County Courthouse. The inscription on the building includes the Odd Fellows three-ring logo, the lodge number, and the year of construction. The building currently houses an apparel store, "Better Than A Biscuit."
Location Details: Matador, Texas, was established in 1891 by the owners of the 100,000-acre Matador Ranch. The town was proposed for the County Seat in 1912; to qualify, there had to be at least twenty businesses in town and the ranch hands constructed numerous "false fronts" to conceal the fact that the only thriving business in town was the saloon. The townspeople brought in a number of politically-savvy ringers for the next election and ousted the ranch from control of the town. The ranch itself was dissolved some years later.
