"The temple of Santiago houses the only Mudejar coffered ceiling that is currently preserved in the city (in the municipality there is also the coffered ceiling of the Parish Church of Algezares). The structure of the church itself gives an idea of ??its medieval origin, although It was extensively restored after years of abandonment.

With a single nave with pointed transverse arches, it is comparable (although with differences) to Valencian models.
Originally from this temple are the tables called Santiago, belonging to the old main altarpiece and representing pictorial scenes from the life of Santiago Apostol, dated around the year 1552, attributed to Juan de Vitoria. The panels were seized on March 8, 1937 by the Delegated Board of Seizure of the Artistic Treasure, in the middle of the Spanish Civil War, and were deposited in the old Provincial Museum, current Museum of Fine Arts of Murcia, where today they are part of its exhibition collection. .

One of the side chapels is dedicated to Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, founding saint of Opus Dei. It has a painting of the saint with orchard reminiscences in the background, the work of the Valencian painter José Manuel Pozo."
