It is the head of the municipality of the same name. It is located about 15 kilometers northwest of the city of Valladolid. It belonged to the chiefdom of the Cupules before the conquest of Yucatán by the Spaniards in the 16th century.

History

The Temple and ex-convent of Santo Domingo.
The main architectural monument of Uayma is constituted by its church of Santo Domingo and its annexed convent, built with stones from nearby Mayan ruins around 1646, and that due to its peculiar architectural style are unique in the whole country. During the Caste War the Maya rebels captured Uayma and destroyed the original church, which was later rebuilt. The restoration was completed in 2005 and the church was left in a state very similar to its original state. Just in front of the church, there is a colonial place known as hotel casa de los pianos, so called because these musical instruments are found inside. In Uayma there are still several buildings in ruins, such as the railroad station.
