Rosenlunds rosarium is beautifully situated in an old cultural environment with a beautiful view of Lake Vättern in the Rosenlund district of Jönköping. There are about 550 different rose varieties, but also some exotic trees and plantings with perennials. During 2022, the rosary was awarded the International Award “Award of Garden Excellence” as the first Swedish rosarium ever. There are also 36 kinds of roses from Småland and Västra Götaland, that were added to the local clone archive (Klonarkivet), which is part of a national project to preserve cultivation diversity.
The roses in the rosary usually bloom from May to the end of August, the biggest flower splendor is in July when many of the climbing roses and the old-fashioned shrub roses bloom.
In 1820 the garden of County Governor Hierta was mentioned for the first time. In the later years until the 1950ies it was used as public park and school garden with fruit trees and large flowerbeds. In 1977 the park and school garden were converted to the rosary, which received some extension and a facelift in the 1990ies.
The rosary is accessible for all people free of charge all around the year from sunset to sunrise. A small cafe in the north-eastern part of the rosary is open in the Swedish summer vacation time (which is after June 24th to the mid of August).
