The Coat of Arms of Koszalin - Koszalin, Poland - Coats of Arms on Waymarking.com

[ENG] This is not the first coat of arms in the town's history. The first one, used on the town's seal was the city walls with open gates and the bishop staying on them. And two shields - with griffin - the symbol of the Griffins dynasty rulled on Pomorze in middle ages and the lion - the Coat of Arms of Hermann Von Gleichen the then bishop of Kamien Pomorski.
In 14th century the citizens changed the town's coat of arms. The new one shows the head of st. John the Baptist - patron of the Pomeranian diocese.
The current coat of arms is in use from 1959. It show the knight on the horse with the flag with griffin and white eagle on the shield. It refers to the coat of arms of Pomeranian duke Boguslaw II, the founder of Koszalin in 1214.

[POL] Obecny herb nie jest pierwszym w historii miasta. Najwczesniejszy, zostal uzyty na pieczeci miasta. Przedstawial mury miejskie z otwartymi bramami i stojacym w nich biskupem. Oraz dwie tarcze - z gryfem - symbolem dynastii Gryfitów, panujaca na Pomorzu w sredniowieczu i lwem - herbem Hermanna von Gleichena, ówczesnego biskupa kamienia Pomorskiego.
W XIV wieku mieszkancy zmienili herb. Nowy przedstawia glowe sw. Jana Chrzciciela - patrona diecezji pomorskiej.
Obecny herb jest w uzyciu od 1959 roku. Przedstawia rycerza na koniu z choragwia z gryfem i bialym orlem na tarczy. Wizerunek ten nawiazuje do herbu ksiecia pomorskiego Boguslawa II, zalozyciela Koszalina w 1214 roku.
