"The Chapel of San Roque is located in the vicinity of Tineo, in the well-known Campo de San Roque, one kilometer from the town of Tineo, 720 m above the sea.
This chapel, dedicated to the saint after whom it is named, according to tradition, was founded by the saint himself, although it is more likely that it was built by French pilgrims on their way to Compostela.
Its founding date is believed to be the end of the 12th century. Renovated and built on several occasions, it nevertheless preserves remains of its Romanesque construction, with barrel vaults and four buttresses that give it an appearance of great robustness.
The door, with ashlars forming a perfect half point, and within a sobriety of great rustic style, consistent with all the rural chapels of the council.

It has a half-barrel vault and four exterior buttresses, which give it great robustness. The door is made up of ashlars that form a perfect semicircular arch. The curved tile roof, Arabic style, is finished around with a carved stone fascia-corner. On the left side there are two small skylights, wider on the outside.

Inside, the decoration is reduced to a single altar with a wooden altarpiece supported by two columns and the image of the Saint with his dog. The exterior decoration of the temple is reduced only to a shield over the entrance door, which presents a castle, which undoubtedly is the same one that appears in the emblem of Tineo, and which in some periods was the only heraldic shield that it had. the municipality. Under it you can read San Roque and in the highest part of the shield, and in Roman numerals, the date one thousand four hundred is written, a possible date of foundation. Due to the date we have just mentioned and 1390, it is not possible that it was Saint Roch who founded the foundation since the saint died in 1327."
