This barn is located across the street from The Prairie School at 4050 Lighthouse Dr, Wind Point, WI 53402. Besides being old, the barn is noteworthy as the last remaining homestead barn that is on Lake Michigan according to the informational placard attached to it.
This barn was built by Nicholas and Gertrude Schmitz around 1862. 50 feet to the south of this location a cream city brick farmhouse was built in two stages: the first before 1864, and the second before 1900. The house was damaged beyond repair and was razed in 2022. This farm is the only remaining homestead farm in Racine County on Lake Michigan's shoreline.
