Five Mile Station - Departing at 2:45 a.m. from the Alta Telegraph Co. in Sacramento, rider Sam (Bill) Hamilton carried the first mail of the Central Overland Pony Express eastward on April 4, 1860. Quickly changing ponies at the Five Mile House, he sped on to the next stop at Fifteen Mile Station.
This landmark is located on the campus of California State University, 6000 "J" St., Sacramento, California. Go left on State University Drive East to Guy West Bridge over-crossing and plaza. The plaque located in plaza.
