The first of the hospital buildings was completed in 1898, although the decision to build it had already been made in 1876. It got its name in honor of the engagement of the Austrian Crown Prince Rudolph to the Belgian Princess Stephanie.
It is currently a modern facility of regional importance with accreditation in all major medical fields (surgery, internal medicine, neurology, pediatrics, otorhinolaryngology, gynecology, anesthesiology, radiology, rehabilitation and pathology). In 2023, more than 140 doctors served here in 17 departments with more than 400 beds.
