The Texas Theater was opened in 1931 in Oak Cliff, a suburb of Dallas, Texas. No expense was spared to make it one of the grandest venues of its time, including being the first air-conditioned theater in the area.
On 22 November 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. Within an hour and a half of the shooting, police apprehended a suspect, Lee Harvey Oswald, at this theater.
The Texas Theater closed its doors in 1989. Since then, the building has deteriorated; however, the Oak Cliff Foundation is making an effort to restore it.
The date of the "before" photo, posted at the Foundation's website, is unknown; however, the featured movie, Red Dust, is dated 1932.
I took the "after" photo on 24 February 2007.
