The sanctuary guide was telling us about the various elephants that have been rescued and now 'on display', when I had seen a small laminated marker above the whiteboard that lists the elephants, their age, who is looking after them, and any special conditions. On closer inspection I saw that it was a measure of 3 metres above the ground, for a flood in May 2017. The guide remembered the occasion, although he was obviously unable to come to work that day!
* This is quite a distance out of Kuala Lumpur, so hooking into a guided tour is the best way to get there. It does cost: RM50
