Percival George Cross was a Scottish gentleman, baker by craft, who somehow "landed" in Solitaire, a hamlet in the middle of nowhere, a lost outpost in the desert in Namibia. It became a "must stop" place for travelers who would make a pit stop here to fill up deposits an stomachs. And for that, there was Percival George Cross, who worked for twenty years as the master baker at his own unexpected local bakery (Moose McGregor’s Desert Bakery). He created the mythic apple crumb which nowadays are still baked daily on the same spot. He died in 2014 and his grave can be seen across the street from his beloved bakery. Just by the grave there is a dedicated bench. This is the text carved on the metal plate attached to the back of the bench:
"IN MEMORY OF
PERCY CROSS (MOOSE MCGREGOR)
RESTING PEACEFULLY WHERE NO SHADOW FALLS
IN PEACEFUL SLEEP HE AWAITS US ALL
GOD WILL LINK THE BROKEN CHAIN
WHEN ONE BY ONE WE MEET AGAIN
LOVED AND MISSED BY ALL"
