"En Almaciles no pierdas la oportunidad de visitar la Iglesia de San Antonio Abad en la Plaza de la Libertad. Mandada construir como ermita por el capitán de los Reyes Católicos D. Pedro Serrano y su esposa Doña Quiteria Nieto, este monumento ha sido testigo de los acontecimientos históricos más importantes que han acontecido en Almaciles durante los últimos siglos.
D. Diego de la Calzada, obispo de Salónica y visitador general de la archidiócesis de Toledo bendijo la entonces ermita de Almaciles el 9 de mayo de 1586. Hasta el año 1953 la parroquia perteneció a la Archidiócesis de Toledo pasando posteriormente a formar parte de la Diócesis de Guadix.
Al entrar a la iglesia por la puerta principal que está situada en la fachada norte, podrás encontrar una primera nave lateral. A la izquierda de la entrada en esta nave lateral es posible admirar un magnífico cuadro de la Virgen del Carmen donado por D. Ramón García Sánchez en 1944. A la derecha de la entrada, junto a la pila bautismal se encuentra la imagen del beato Fortunato Arias, que nació en Almaciles el 11 de junio de 1891. asesinado durante la Guerra Civil por el bando republicano.
Considerado mártir por la Iglesia Católica, fue beatificado el 28 de octubre de 2007 en Roma. De gran importancia es la imagen de Santa Quiteria, que nos recuerda a Da Quiteria Nieto. Esta obra se atribuye a la escuela granadina del siglo XVIII.
En el altar mayor luce una escultura de San Antonio atribuida a la Escuela de Salcillo y también se encuentra la imagen de San Antonio Abad, patrón de los animales con su túnica de sayal con capuchón y la cruz en forma de tau en el pecho".
