An old benchmark is mounted on a large concrete block that is part of the railroad's northern abutment where the trestle crosses the north side of Salado Creek. The marker is set in the SE corner of this trestle's concrete support foundation.

BEWARE! THESES ARE LIVE TRACKS AND ARE ACTIVELY USED BY TRAINS!
IF YOU HEAR THE TRAIN's WHISTLE, GET OFF THE TRACKS RIGHT AWAY AND STAY OFF UNTIL THE TRAIN PASSES.

This search for a benchmark should be conducted during daytime hours.
If all goes well, no train will pass while you are finding this benchmark.

Assuming the best scenario, plan to approach from the north side of Salado Creek so you will have only a short walk along the actual tracks to see the location of the benchmark. If you approach from the south side of the creek, then you essentially have to walk the complete distance of the trestle over the creek bed.

The benchmark can only be viewed from the top of the concrete block in which the marker is embedded. The concrete block is below the level of the actual tracks, so to get to the location where the benchmark is visible means you will need to walk onto the tracks. There is a concrete sidewalk that comes out of the Jack White Park that is part of the forested area through which this railroad track passes. The sidewalk is on the north side of Salado Creek and comes right up to and under this end of the train trestle. Walking carefully up side of the track bed to then follow the tracks to the north end of the trestle that is adjacent to the sidewalk and the cover over the portion of the sidewalk closest to the train tracks above will place you where you can see the benchmark. You will need to stand on the white metal grate that has been added as a safety feature. Hold onto the horizontal steel cables that define the "side" of the tracks when they are suspended. CAREFULLY aim your camera onto the SE corner of the concrete and look for the standard round metal benchmark disk. Take all the photos you desire of the benchmark to the creek or the trestle. Think ahead and plan to stay safe since walking on a suspended bridge is not a normal activity.

The benchmark disk has four layers of text wrapped around the disk and a center circle with identifying information. The text on the disk reads as follow:
