"Mr. George Spencer Caldwell, affectionately known as “Spencer,” passed away peacefully on December 31, 2023, in St. Charles, Missouri. He was surrounded by his family.
"Spencer was born in Yonkers, New York on April 1, 1940, to Josephine Flewellen and Alvan V.B. Caldwell. He received the name George Spencer from his two uncles – his mother’s brother was George and his father’s brother was Spencer. Though he loved both uncles, he chose to be called Spencer throughout his life. Spencer grew up and attended high school in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. He then moved on to Union College in Schenectady, New York, where he was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity, majored in chemistry and received his bachelor’s degree. On his graduation, he was appointed to Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force on June 10, 1962.
"Spencer was married to his loving wife, Connie. They met at work and shared many wonderful years together before marrying on April 1, 1995. For 29 years they made their home in St. Charles, Missouri.
"Spencer was a manufacturer’s representative. He worked for Don Roberts & Associates in Kansas City before venturing out on his own to create a highly successful sales and marketing company for leading manufacturers. He also continued to grow professionally by becoming a business owner with his wife, Connie, as his business partner.
"Spencer lived life to the fullest and his adventures reflected his love for the outdoors. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends, family and customers and participated in many charity events. With his love of flying, he was very daring when he decided to try skydiving. He was an excellent skier and spent his time on the black diamond slopes enjoying the challenge. He had a passion for sailing and experiencing a day on the water surrounded by the wind and the sun. His love of the outdoors took him on many canoeing, fishing, hiking and camping trips involving annual winter float trips, portaging between lakes in Canada and journeys to Philmont with the Boy Scouts, to name a few. He loved motorcycle riding and was still riding up until just a few years ago. He enjoyed gardening and working with his hands. He always needed a project – building something new or fixing something old. He enjoyed sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and never missed watching a game. He took pleasure in volunteering at Five Acres Animal Shelter and slowing down to spend relaxing time with Connie walking their dog Hallee. Spencer loved to travel with his wife. Many of their best trips were spontaneous – just get up and go. In quieter moments, he loved to read, and he loved to dance – even ballroom dancing. Out of the blue he would often say “dance with me”.
"Spencer never met a stranger – he loved talking to people. His work and adventures gave him wonderful stories to share and lifelong friendships he cherished every day. These adventures also involved family, and he treasured every minute spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and entire family. He gave them support and love – he was always about family first. He was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Webster Groves, Missouri. Spencer was born on April 1st – and married on April 1st – April Fool’s Day was his day, and he made it his way of life. He always wanted to make people laugh, smile and be happy. He will be deeply missed by many. Rest in peace, my love.
"Predeceased by his parents, Josephine and Alvan Caldwell, Spencer’s memory will continue to be honored and kept alive by his wife, Connie; daughter, Cathie Caldwell and Fred Annett; granddaughter Harley; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Sahra Caldwell; grandsons Sullivan Spencer and Dakota Dee; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Terry Taylor; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Mike McAdams; nieces, Christine McAdams and Travis Cespedes, Zoe and Noah; Kelly and Michael Peter, McClane and Lois; nephew, Michael and Meghan McAdams and Courtland; brother-in-law, Mike King; niece, Veronicalee and David Campbell; nephew, Billy and Marcela King, Izzy and Anna and his very special cockapoo, Hallee." ~ Baue Funeral Home
