These Then and Now photos are of the Basilica of Saint Joseph Proto-Cathedral on West Stephen Foster Avenue (U.S. HWY 62) in Bardstown, Kentucky. The church was consecrated as the cathedral of the Diocese of Bardstown on August 8, 1819 by Bishop Benedict Joseph Flaget. in 1841, the see of the diocese was moved to Louisville and Saint Joseph's became a parish church. The church was given the title of Minor Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 2001.
The "Then" photo shows the church as it stood in 1934. The photograph was taken by Theodore Webb on January 30, 1934 for the Historic American Buildings Survey. The "Now" photo was taken in April 2024. The only noticeable differences between the images are the cross on the pediment and the statue of Jesus on the sidewalk, both of which are no longer present.
