The St Marks Anglican Church in Penwortham was built in 1851 and was the first Anglican church north of Gawler . The church is constructed of squared coursed sandstone. The building is divided into four bays by buttresses, a slender lancet window to each bay. Lancet has small diamond shaped panes with pointed arch of two stones.
The first burial here was that of John Ainsworth Horrocks in 1846. The cemetery is still in use and is located on the eastern side of Main North Road behind the Horrocks cairn. The burials are in three distinct areas not related by date.
