"Henry Rupelt purchased this lot after the 1866, fire. After nearly ten years of planning, Rupelt began building a hotel here, but due to a fall during construction, he was unable to complete it. Winslow Gallison bought and finished the building in 1877.
The Gallison Hotel, a splendid wood structure, with a cloth-lined ceiling, because of the chief ornament. of the town. It was destroyed in the fire of 1887 from which several people barely escaped with their lives.
In 1900 W B. Stolder bought the lot and built the current structure with stores on the lower level and hotel rooms above."
