"Lodi Memorial Park, the oldest in Lodi, was built on property own by the pope family. The original purchase included the pioneer I and II Gardens. John Nevin and his wife were early owners whose property it was for about 10 years. They sold it to Lee Villinger in 1903. Susan Jahant Bawden, the first woman embalmer and funeral director in Lodi, became owner in 1917. Bawden purchased another 10 acres to the east to enlarge the cemetery. In 1984, remains from many defunct area cemeteries were rep interred on these grounds.

In this quiet resting place lie the remains of people represent diverse nationalities and religions, as well as fallen soldiers of the Civil War and other wars. The rich heritage of these cemetery gardens has been fostered for over 100 years and today it continues to serve the community."
