The building is located on on of the major roads leading to the city centre and at the time it was built was a residential area.
However in recent years the area has changed with many commercial properties and food outlets.
Although the Salvation Army had no problems with their new neighbours they wanted to move to an area surrounded by families.
In 2006 the building was sold and the army moved to a new purpose built property in a residential area.
The building has now been converted into an apartment hotel called Beaumonts. Although the company spent two years converting the inside of the building they retained all the external features.
