In recent years, this hydroelectric corridor has been rehabilitated through efforts of the Briarbrook Brookside Morgan’s Grant Community Association (BMGCA) and the utility Hydro One. This bat house was constructed on the east edge of the hydro corridor, where property lines meet from 14 Beacon Way and 41 Brady Avenue. Interestingly, there are at least four insect hotels within a short flight from this bat house. The installation of the bat house is well described in the report
BMGCA: Summer 2021, Morgan’s Grant Hydro Corridor Pollinator Project.
“The bat house was obtained from École Secondaire Pierre-Savard. First, the house was secured to a 12ft post. Then, a hole that was approximately 1 ft wide and 3ft deep was dug. At the bottom of the hole, a layer of small rocks was added to allow for drainage. The post was put in the hole and larger rocks were put around the base to help keep the post stable. Finally, the hole was refilled with dirt and packed down tightly. More large rocks were put at the base for extra stability."
