A bear cub climbs up a dead tree trunk, while an owl looks out from a knothole and a hare freezes at the base of the tree.

This is one of several carved wooden statues of wildlife near the entrance to the Douglas Fir Resort and Chalets on Banff’s Tunnel Mountain. A signature at the base reads “Pete Ryan”.

Pete Ryan (1950-2021) was a well-known, very prolific chainsaw carver based in Hope, BC. (visit link)
