A giant raven is perched on a stump, and a bear is climbing up the stump. A raven’s head is carved in relief in the side of the stump, in a style similar to that used by Indigenous cultures of the Northwest Coast.

This is one of several carved wooden statues of wildlife near the entrance to the Douglas Fir Resort and Chalets on Banff’s Tunnel Mountain. A signature beneath the raven’s tail reads “Pete Ryan 2008 Hope, BC”.

Pete Ryan (1950-2021) was a well-known, very prolific chainsaw carver based in Hope, BC. (visit link)
