"The St. Martin's Church is a Roman Catholic church in the Dutch town of Baak. The neo-Gothic church was built in the years 1890 - 1891 according to a design by Alfred Tepe and was made possible by a donation from Ernest Willem Franciscus Canisius van der Heijden.
In 1891 the church was consecrated by the Archbishop of Utrecht Petrus Matthias Snickers[1] and was given the patron saint of Martin of Tours. The church replaced the neighboring barn church of the same name, which was built on the Pastoriestraat in 1772-1773 - possibly by the architect of the Zutphen Quarter, Teunis Wittenberg - and was enlarged in 1836.
The church, built as a pseudo-basilica, has a small pointed arch window immediately above the entrance, which is followed by a larger variant. The church tower has a constricted spire. Next to the entrance, chapels have been built on both sides. The side walls have pointed arch windows with stained glass windows, which are also incorporated in the transept. The design is according to the Utrecht School. There is also an organ from 1788, originally built by Abraham Meere for the De Liefde church in Amsterdam, and placed in the St. Martin's Church after renovation by Gradussen.
The church was designated as a national monument in 1976."
