The Appalachian Trail stretches almost 2200 miles along the Appalachian Mountains in the eastern U.S. Ultimately, it connects two state high points: the summit of Brasstown Bald in Georgia and Mount Katahdin in Maine. Just four miles from the northern terminus, right at the foot of Mt. Katahdin, lies this waterfall. Obviously, you don’t need to hike the entire Appalachian Trail to see the falls, but the closest place you can park your car is about a mile away.
From the Katahdin Stream campground parking area (coordinates provided), hike north along the Appalachian Trail, which follows Katahdin Stream, 1.1 miles to the falls. The summit of Mt. Katadin, the highest point in the state of Maine, is just four miles further up the trail - but it’s a rough four miles.
