The Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument is a 45' tall granite monument honoring the citizens from the Phillipsburg area who served during the Civil War. The monument was fabricated by D.J. Howell’s and Sons, of Easton, PA and dedicated on May 10, 1906.
The monument has a central column topped by a figure of a sailor looking through a pair of binoculars held in his right hand. His left hand is on his left hip. The column has three sets of inscriptions with the names of Civil War battles:

Below is a projecting triangular base with figures of Civil War soldiers standing on platforms at each corner. On the base below each soldier are the inscription:
