This obelisk stands on the summit of Murrayshall Hill at 279 metres high, four miles east of the city of Perth in Scotland. The fifteen foot high monument commemorates Thomas Graham, who fought alongside Wellington in the Peninsular War in 1811. Three years later he became Baron Lynedoch of Balgowan and continued to live and farm in Perthshire until his death in 1843 at the age of 95.
The obelisk was erected ten years later in 1853 and was placed on the hills summit on top of what was the original cairn. A worn inscription lies on the south-east face and reads:
'To the Memory of
THOMAS GRAHAM LORD LYNEDOCH
This Obelisk is dedicated'
A metal plaque was added on the south-west face in 2006 and gives a historical profile on Graham and his wife Mary.
The obelisk can be reached via many paths that climb the hill, a signposted route is the quickest from the north-west from the golf courses at Murrayshall.
