HMCS Bonaventure, affectionately called the "Bonnie" was a Majestic class variant of the British 1942 Light Fleet Carrier design. Originally laid down in the 1940's as HMS Powerful, it wasn't until 1952 that the newly renamed HMCS Bonaventure began service with the RCN, joining sister carrier HMCS Magnificent (the "Maggie") which in turn had been acquired in 1948 from the Royal Navy in exchange for the carrier HMCS Warrior.
The Bonnie served Canada until 1970, when the to-this-day controversial Defence White Paper recommended the decommissioning of Canada's sole remaining carrier.
The Bonnie was paid off in April 1970, and sold for scrap in 1971.
The model was completed in by artist Dan Linton of Stouffville, ON. Onthe ship's deck are examples of the aircraft that flew off her, including Sea King helicopters, Banshee fighters and Grumman Trackers.
