Built in 1892 for the Calgary Tribune newspaper, this Romanesque Revival building is now the home to a ground floor restaurant and office/retail space.

Calgary's first newspaper, the Calgary Herald, was founded by Thomas B. Braden (1851-1904) in 1883. By 1885, he had sold the Herald and founded a new paper, the Calgary Tribune. The Tribune operated out of a frame building at this location from 1889 to 1892, until that building was replaced by this brick building with its sandstone facade.

In 1899, the Calgary Tribune merged with the newly-established Albertan newspaper. Until 1901, the paper had both names on the front page, as "The Albertan and The Alberta Tribune". In 1901, the name changed to "Morning Albertan" and for the next seven decades, the adjectives came and went, but the newspaper's name was always some variation on "The Albertan".

The newspaper moved into a different building in 1907 and the Tribune Block housed a succession of tenants, such as a cigar store and a clothing shop. However, for many decades, Calgarians could subscribe to the Albertan newspaper if they liked a morning paper, or the Herald if they preferred afternoon delivery. In 1980, the Albertan was bought by the Sun newspaper chain and became the Calgary Sun. Both the Herald and the Sun are still publishing as of 2023.
