The Church of St. George in Pilsen-Doubravka is probably the oldest preserved church in the territory of today's Pilsen. It is situated on an elevation on the bank at the confluence of the Berounka and Úslava rivers near the extinct medieval village of Týnec. The circumstances of the founding of the church are full of ambiguity and legends. There are many variants about its origin. Most often, the church is associated with the return of Bishop Vojtech of Prague from exile in November 992. The first written mention of the church dates back to 1361, when Frána of Chrást was appointed parish priest on 31 March. In this period (around 1350) the first significant reconstruction of the church was carried out, when the church was expanded by moving the northern wall. The imprint of the original location of this wall is still visible on the church floor. The apse has been preserved from the original church.
