Special postage stamps for use on Christmas cards have been a perennial favorite in the United States (and other countries) since the 1960s. For subject matter, the Post Office, and subsequently the Postal Service, often utilized paintings from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Though the stamp notes the artist as Giovanni Bellini, more recent scholarship attributes it to an anonymous ‘follower’ of Bellini.
