The plaque says, "Built in 1905 as an elementary school for teacher- training, this was the first institutional building in the area. This richly textured sandstone building with deeply set windows, a formal plan, and arched entranceways has architectural features characteristic of the Romanesque Revival Style which was popular for institutional buildings in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1989 the former Model and the adjacent Normal School buildings were incorporated into the City Square complex designed by Paul Merrick Architects."
