The plaque says, "This feminist reformer forged alliances among diverse groups to effect critical social and political benefits for women and workers. She brought female wage earners like herself into Canada's mostly middle-class suffrage movement, implementing lessons learned while campaigning for voting rights in Great Britain. After immigrating in 1911, she joined the Vancouver Trades and Labour Council Executive (1913 - 1921), helping to organize female workers. Elected the first woman on the Vancouver City Council in 1937, Gutteridge helped lay the foundations for a social housing movement in British Columbia."
Civil Right Type: Gender Equality (includes women's suffrage)
