In the early 1900s, patrons of the Palace Theatre at 364 Main St., Emmaus (most recently the location of the Village Apothecary) could walk in, drop a nickel into the personal viewing machine, turn the crank and watch a movie. Much has changed these days, but moviegoers can still enjoy motion pictures at what’s now known as the Emmaus Theatre.

In the 1920s, the theater’s owners saw a need for progress in the entertainment world. They purchased a grocery store on South Fourth Street, just above the Emmaus Triangle, and turned it into the Penlo movie theater. It later underwent significant renovation and another name change.

Today the theater, with its art deco facade, is an iconic part of the borough’s landscape.

Second run movies, cult movies, and live entertainment is currently offered.
